Server disconnects after uploading each email.
I have used Thunderbird for many years. I access 4 email accounts from 3 different servers. It has worked flawlessly until recently. Now, each time I open Thunderbird , it is extremely slow to sync with any of the servers. The Activity Manager displays "The ___ server has disconnected, there may be a network problem" after each email syncs. This happens on every server. The email itself seems to sync correctly, but at a rate of about 1 per 15 seconds. I am using Windows 10 and the Thunderbird 45.8.0. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows safe mode disables anti-virus software, which is most likely the culprit. These are some generic suggestions to avoid problems with anti-virus software.
Create an exception in your anti-virus software for the Thunderbird profile folder, so that the anti-virus real-time scanner will not scan it. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird
Don't let your anti-virus software scan incoming and outgoing messages.
Don't let your anti-virus software scan attachments.
Don't let your anti-virus software intercept your secure connection to the server.
Remove any add-ons your anti-virus software may have installed in Thunderbird.
Keep it working. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keep_it_working_-_Thunderbird
And last but not least, backup your Thunderbird profile on a regular basis. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile

I am using Windows 10 and the Thunderbird 45.8.0.
The latest release version is 60.6.1. https://www.thunderbird.net/
Why are you running an outdated (and vulnerable) version?
Thanks for the reply. Good question. I clicked on Help-about, and it said “Thunderbird is up to date”, so I didn’t check further. I’m now upgraded to 60.6.1. No improvement. I reinstalled my imap mail server account using the default settings ( no security ), but the server keeps disconnecting between each email (as far as I can tell). Also, the Activity Manager says "Bringing folder INBOX up to date" "Downloading 85 of 33 in Inbox". I can access my email from a browser and tell that there are only 33 messages in my Inbox. The 85 is still increasing slowly. Again any help or ideas are welcome. Thanks

Try to start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled. - Win10 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode
Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode. - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode
Does the problem go away?
Yes! The server stopped disconnecting and TB updated very quickly. I need to go back to normal mode and see if the problem reoccurs. Thanks.
