Is Widevine Content Decryption Module freezing Firefox 88 after exiting sleep mode?
For days I was noticing that, after exiting sleep mode for at least a couple hours, Firefox would open up with the spinning wheel and would be completely frozen. Frequently I'd have to reboot and re-open in Safe Mode, because it wouldn't force quit. Then I'd disable the plugins when I had it open. But eventually I had to re-activate this plugin in order to stream content. I don't know 100% if this is causing the problem. Is anyone else having issues with this plugin and if so, is there a simple way to fix/debug?

Hi brianwflood,
Thanks for bringing this up. It looks like several users have been encountering this issue with widevine since the 88 release.
It looks as though the engineering team is going to be pushing a fix for this up in an upcoming dot release for version 88 going live on 05/05/2021.
I would suggest you ensure your version is updated to this new 88.0.1 release once it is live and then see if your issue persists.
I hope this helps.
Thanks for the feedback. Just this morning I encountered another freeze and noticed Wide Vine was actually disabled from that last freeze I encountered, so it's now clear that something else has to be the cause, though I'll plan to see how 88.0.1 works out.
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Options/Preferences -> General: Performance
remove checkmark: [ ] "Use recommended performance settings"
remove checkmark: [ ] "Use hardware acceleration when available" - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/performance-settings
Close and restart Firefox after modifying the setting to make changes effective.
You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.
