How do I reinstate notification of number of new emails in my taskbar icon

Previously whenever I received emails in TB, my taskbar TB icon would show the number in red. I must have inadvertently hit a combo of keys that eliminated this number. Can anyone tell me how to reinstate this number?

On the menu > settings Search for "new mail" set show try icon for unread messages also set the app icon setting to show unread messages or new messages as you desire.
