I wish I could give a specific example.

This occasionally occurs. An example is copying text from one site, and trying to paste in into a thread response field on another site.

But nothing happens. However, if I go directly from that page to my text editor, and paste it into there, no problem.

I then copy what I pasted in the text editor, and when i go back to that same page, it pastes into the field normally.

Many sites are not satisfied with the browser managing pasting, so they intercept the paste and handle it with a script. But if sites do not test in Firefox, they may use script code that isn't compatible with how Firefox exposes clipboard data. Another possible factor is where Firefox stores the data on the clipboard (HTML, Unicode text, plain text, etc.) when you copy from a page in Firefox. There are many possibilities for discrepancies among browsers.

(Example: In recent days, an update on WhatsappWeb changed the script to be incompatible with pasting text from Firefox (pasting images still worked); that was fixed last night, we think.)

I don't have any universal solution to this, it's something you may need to work around from time to time.

@ jscher2000

Thanks.

While were here, do you mind if I ask "Switch to previous active Tab" related question?

I don't mind.

I've been trying to get a handle on containers.

I have numerous apps that show up here, one at a time. Containers is enabled, but the app disclaimer remains, and why is the the enabled portion greyed out.

Also, is there some sort of a hierarchy of apps that determines which will show there? I also have CanvasBlocker and Firefox Multi-Account containers, but I have to disable them for your app to show.

The reason you can't access the setting is that you would have to first disable all the add-ons that force it to turn on before you could turn it off.

As for which one is listed there, I don't know. Perhaps it is related to installation order or maybe the order it initialized in the latest session.

I'm not sure why you need to make changes here. What is the problem you're trying to solve?

No, I'm not saying I need to make any changes, and I'm not trying to turn it off. I'm completely new to containers. I thought it was important to understand, among other things, why it was greyed out.

When I first saw that "disable" statement, and searched for a reason, my impression was that when I enabled containers, it would go away. Apparently, not so.

But I still don't understand the purpose. Why am I informed that an app requires container tabs, with an option to disable, when containers are enabled.

By default, Container Tabs are disabled, but add-ons can enable them. If an add-on enables them, you cannot disable them without first disabling the add-on. That is why the control is grayed. This is one of a few parts of the Setting page where Firefox will point to an add-on as the reason you can't do something. Another one is your home page, when an add-on controls that.

Thanks. I wonder what the benefit is of disabling containers? Why bother?
