Running Firefox 3.6.13 under WinXP. Attempts at streaming video, such as the Hulu site - see "loading" but the video will not play. The adds download and play but not the episode video - this happens from other video sites such as ABCTV.com as well. In a few moments see the message "sorry, streaming video is not available. Check internet connection."

This video and site works fine on another WinNT system with Firefox 3.5.5. It also works fine on this system using IE8.

Do you have Adobe Flash on the computer? If so, what version?

I have the Adobe Flash 10 plugin installed on the system. Sorry. I forgot to include that little piece of information earlier.

Thanks for your help. More info that I thought of...

I checked the Firefox settings, such as privacy, pop-ups (enabled), etc. and don't find anything the directly points me to the problem. since I can access the video via IE8, the problem cannot be a filter issue with my ISP. It seems that it must either be Firefox or perhaps the Adobe Flash player, I think.

Please try the link above. This will clear the cookies and cache out of the Adobe Flash Player. Once the manager loads, please make sure that you click on "Delete All Sites". Let me know if this works for you.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

  • "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
  • "Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Thank you so much for your help. Unfortunately, your suggestions didn't resolve the problem. I cleared cache and history, checked add-ons, but neither worked. I tried deleting Firefox and re-installing a fresh 3.6.13 copy (the current one). It still wouldn't stream the movie video. Odd, that it handles the advertisements just fine.

I finally deleted Firefox one last time and installed a back-level version (3.5.5) that I am currently using on my other platform. It works just fine. My conclusion is that: (1) keep the install downloads, just in case; and (2) the current version has issues with video - at least the implementation that I have.

So all is good for me now. I'll just wait for V4 to go to a production state and then stabilize a bit. Even with a problem now and then, I am convinced of the overall quality and superiority of Firefox for my Windows PC.

Do you have AdBlockPlus in use? I had same problem with my FF 3.6.13 and ABP 1.3.3. Problem was caused by AdBlockPlus.

FIX: ABP --> force a subscription update by opening the Tools menu, selecting the Adblock Plus preferences, and then "Filters", followed by "Update all subscriptions".

Fix found from ABP forum

e. I Have Vista 32 home premium, but I guess it`s not related to operating system

I do not have ABP. As I said, my conclusion is that it is something connected to the installation of the 3.6.13 version. Rather than waste my time on cranky software, I downgraded to 3.5.5 with successful results. But thanks for the comment.
