Cross sign appears for new tab appears next to the open one but it is inactive - cannot open tabs at all. Used to work fine, not anymore. Tried to install plug-ins but did not work. Perhaps, I should un-install something then?

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.

There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:

I would suggest un-installing any plug-ins which you are not using as they may be interuppting the proper functioning of the browser. Could you give clearer details please? Do you have the latest version of Firefox (6.0)? And is your computer normally slow?

I un-installed Ask toolbar and new tab works! Thanks for this! But it opens empty, I want to have it opening default page of Yahoo!.co.uk. Could you please let me know how to set it up?
