every time i try and update firefox a window pops up ad says that I must reboot firefox from a previous install and when i do and i try to reinstall firefox the same pop up comes up and it won't let me update to the new version

Try this:

  1. Close Firefox.
  2. In Windows Explorer, go to the following location: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
  3. Delete everything in that folder.
