I have always used Preview as my default download reader, however now some documents such as utility bills can only be opened using Adobe 9 reader. My question is this, how do I change my default reader to Adobe 9 in Firefox 3.6.28, Mac OSX 10.4

Unrelated to your issue, it looks like you're using a very old version of Firefox. You should upgrade to the latest version, Firefox 11 -- just go to the Help menu and click Check for Updates. This link walks you through the process: Update Firefox to the latest release
