Had Adobe Flash Player 11.3 r300 and it stopped showing videos, etc. in Firefox a few days ago. Now I've installed v 11.4 r402 and it still gives error message "Adobe Flash Player ... has stopped working." I uninstalled, downloaded again and reinstalled -- with the same result. No videos. Firefox Plugin check page shows it installed correctly. Any solutions?

For 11.3, one of the workarounds was to disable protected mode. See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox? This appears to still be applicable in Flash 11.4.

You also could consider rolling back to Flash 10.3. However, some content may require new features of Flash 11.x. This article has the steps: Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again.

I believe that there is a problem with compatibility between Firefox 15 and flash player 11.4 my work around seems to work in that as I could not find a previous version of flash player I found a previous version of Firefox. Had to change auto updates first to notify when updates available, installed Firefox 14 and then flash player 11.4 every thing seems fine now.

I chose to do a clean uninstall of v. 11.4 and then installed v. 10.3 as suggested, following the good directions provided. Happy to say this solved the problem! Thank you.

Warning: Installing Adobe Flash 10.3

The instructions in the 11.3 crash article on installing the 10.3 don't tell you that the Active X Flash version must also be installed because the Adobe Uninstaller uninstalls ALL installed Flash and certain programs require that to work properly. I reported this two months ago and although I was thanked for it it was ignored by Staff and only corrected in the viewing videos problem article, which links to the crash article. If I have to do the job of Staff I'm happy to oblige, since there is no excuse for this. I actually corrected this same error by a Mozilla QA engineer who left out this same step in her testing on a bug report, and I got the expected result, she didn't.

jscher2000's recommendations are good, I'm only supplementing the crash article instructions for anyone who needs that.

Did anybody ask themselves why would adobe offer Chrome during flash installation ? why they didn't offer Firefox, simply because they are not willing to work with Firefox team to fix the problem which will eventually ends by forcing every body to switch to Chrome specially that YouTube and Google are teamed together so all the features for flash movies played on Firefox will not work while with Chrome it will work. Just my opinion.. The following works for mw: 10.3 plugin - Checkmate link. Firefox 13.01 dom.ipc.plugins.enabled;false dom.ipc.plugins.java.enabled;false dom.ipc.plugins.parentTimeoutSecs;1 dom.ipc.plugins.processLaunchTimeoutSecs;10 dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs;10 dom.ipc.processCount;1

It is been fast, no crashes, on Vista 32bit.

CheckMate -- thanks for the warning that the Active X Flash version must also be installed with 10.3. Could you tell me how to find that?

@artlife

I actually posted the direct link for it in the Warning, where it says "For Internet Explorer" . That's the Active X Flash version as it's called. Don't worry about the technical difference between that and the plugin for Firefox. Just click on the link and follow the simple instructions. But only AFTER you run the Adobe uninstaller. I'll copy it here for you. I only used the Active X term so you if you see it called that you'll know what it means. But I'll clarify that in the Warning. Sorry if I didn't make it clear.

Interesting opinion! I've been wondering about Adobe's partnership with Chrome myself and how it effects how hard they care to work on Firefox. That certainly could explain Adobe's very poor beta testing and blaming RealPlayer for the conflict Adobe caused and ONLY started apologizing and saying they were now coordinating with Mozilla Developers only later when they got so much criticism they had no choice. And where was Firefox in all this? Following Adobe's moronic recommendation to disable RealPlayer instead of advising users as I was from the beginning, to roll back the defective update if you're having the viewing videos problem!

I had a different problem with 11.4 . I'll start a new thread but I'll ask if anybody's seen this here. The videos play fine, RealPlayer download button appears and works normally, but after simply pausing a video on YouTube, I lose the scrolling ability on that page. The ONLY way to get it back is to restart Firefox but then it happens again. This only happens with YouTube, and only with Firefox, not IE9 or Chrome. Doesn't happen with other sites. Tried disabling Protected Mode - no difference. Reinstalling the driver and software for the Synaptics touchpad doesn't fix it. There's no conflict with RealPlayer. Their engineers fixed all problems with Adobe and Firefox with and it was tested with the 11.4 in beta, and even Adobe's engineer Jeromie Clark tested it with the 11.3 and admitted RealPlayer had fixed everything with Flash. This happens with both FF14.0.1 and Firefox 15.0. Rolling back to the 10.3 fixes it. Anybody else getting this problem?

I'm using an HP DV7 Select Edition with Windows 7 64 bit.

Hi CheckMate, this sounds similar to the problem of the plugin capturing all keyboard input after you use the pause button to adjust the volume. In the old days, simply clicking outside the player was sufficient to give Firefox back control of the keyboard, but this no longer seems to work in all cases. However, it usually can be resolved by switching tabs or switching applications and then returning to the Youtube page that had the problem and clicking outside the player area. Does that help with the scrolling problem?

Hey All, I'm having the same problem with page not loading properly e.g. Youtube.com, Facebook ... AND ... videos not displaying since I did the flash update.

Since then I have uninstalled flash and reinstalled the older version 10.3 but am still having the same issues in firefox.

Everything works fine in Chrome/Exporer.

Hi michaelk, what appears where you expect to see the video: blank space, black rectangle, error message? If you right-click it, does it show the menu for Flash 10.3 ,Flash 11.4, or anything else?

Hey jscher, I have attached some screen captures to show you exactly what displays. If you would prefer a jing video I can do that also. michael

Hi jscher2000, Thanks for your explanation. I actually had tried those ideas although I only mentioned restarting Firefox. You're right, they reset it, but then it happens again the next time. Multiple retests confirms this. It's really annoying and rolling back to the 10.3 fixes it. Running CCleaner, clearing everything had done nothing either. An HP manager agreed with me that the touch pad should not be vulnerable to this and escalated it.. But the fact is, the touch pad isn't the cause and HP is not going to be able to do anything, because they usually don't on something like this. This is clearly a bug in the 11.4 with YouTube and Firefox.

A user I'm helping PM'd me about the 11.4. and I asked her to test it for this. She's not getting the problem and it's working fine so far - but she also has a different laptop. The 10.3 works perfectly, but two unimportant sites say they won't work without the latest 11.4 screw 'em haha. But why shouldn't you be able to access all sites with the 11.4 because of the bug and other people are experiencing other bugs ?

Funny how these bugs are ONLY with the Firefox Flash plugin. Funny how they haven't involved Chrome or IE - funny. Draw your own conclusions but I knew the answer on June 10. RealPlayer's Level 3 CM told me they recently had a conflict with Flash in Chrome 21 but the fix was to just disable Pepper Flash. But I tested for any conflict with RealPlayer and there isn't any, so the obviously can't fix this. I'll post a bug on Adobe and with Bugzilla. I'm running 10.3 but if you or cor-el or anybody has any other suggestions, I'll be happy to upgrade and test them.

Thanks again, CheckMate

Hi Checkmate I had problems with flash 11.4 and replied to a previous post with my work around I suspected an incompatibility with Firefox 15 and flash 11.4 which as I could find a previous version of flash player decided to revert Firefox 14 after disabling auto updates and things seem to work OK .

Hi, malchinn

Yes, I saw your post on that but if you notice I said this problem started with Firefox 14.0.1 and continued with version 15.0. It seems obvious that different people are experiencing different bugs with 11.4. which was precisely what Adobe's engineer admitted accounted for their inability to fix the 11.3 series despite several updates. They couldn't reproduce the same problems on all computers. So here we go again!

But it would be helpful to know what problem you had.

The problem I had or have if I update to Firefox 15 is that on opening Firefox I get a message to say there is a problem with Flash 11.4 and it has closed this message occurs twice every time a flash ad tries to load. If I use IE9 no problems with flash ads
