I upgraded the browser from 19.0.2 to 20 under windows xp sp3, after restart the browser started but cannot browse for example google.com when i type the url into the address bar. When I click a site from the history this site is loading. I uninstalled the browser and reinstalled but results are the same.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

If you are in a business network environment:

Firefox 20.0 has a problem with configurations where your Windows profile is stored on a server using a UNC path (e.g., \\userdata\greg). There is not currently a solution for this. One workaround might be to choose a local folder for your personal Firefox settings, but that might not be allowed by your IT. Although it is less secure, if you urgently need Firefox, you could downgrade to Firefox 19.0.2. This article has a link under "I still want to downgrade": Install an older version of Firefox.

If you are in a home environment or your settings folder is local, then please ignore the above.
