After I upgrade to Firefox 21, I also upgraded to Flash Player 11. Now when I start Firefox it hangs up before it opens any site. I can only close it using task manager. When I uninstall Flash Player, Firefox works fine. I tried installing an older version of Flash, and that didn't work either. Windows 7.

Hi there, you might try some of the suggestions in the "Firefox hangs" support article, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-hangs-or-not-responding -- specifically, the one about crashes or hangs that occur with Flash. Try disabling hardware acceleration.

Thanks for the suggestions, but unfortunately none of them worked. I think it hangs up only on sites with Flash files in them. I can install Flash and it works fine until I reboot.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
