I checked for plugins updates in Firefox 24 and it showed I needed to update Java and VLC media player even though I knew I had the latest versions. I ran FF's update links for both and rebooted but still was told the two needed updating after a new scan. I uninstalled both programs then re-installed the latest versions. FF still says that I have VLC v2.06 and I'm "vulnerable" but the VLC software shows I have v2.08 which is the latest. Java is properly recognized now and no longer marked as needing update. How can I get FF to recognize that I have the latest version of VLC? Thank you.

I know that VLC has a issue that they didn't update their file that serves the Firefox plugin, and I'm not sure about Java but you may want to check out the How to allow Java on trusted sites.
