I have no cog wheel in a new tab - ffox 57

more options

I would like to customize the new tab page to have no content. I found instructions to do that but they say to click on the cogwheel in the upper right corner in a new tab... and I don't have a cogwheel.

How do I get it back and/or work around this problem?

Hi, what does your new tab page look like? Is it possible that one of your extensions has replaced the built-in page with something else?

You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any system extensions that Firefox installs on its own are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything suspicious? If in doubt, disable.

Any improvement?

Hey thanks... I had checked that already and I had no active non-standard plug-ins or add-ons, but I decided to double check. I had Tab Mix Plus installed from days of yore and it had been moved to the Legacy/Deactivated category so I figure it was not having any impact. But, before responding, I decided I'd remove it to be sure and guess what.... I have the control back. Odd, since it shouldn't have been having an effect.

Working now.
