You can export the current bookmarks to an HTML backup file. Make sure that the file has a .html file extension.

Importing an HTML backup merges the bookmarks with the already existing bookmarks.

Does the file have a .json file extension?

If not then you need to rename the file and add the .json file extension.

They are saved in my external HD labeled "bookmarks-2013-11-4.json

So does that indicate the .json file extension?

If it matters, I saved my bookmarks from a PC to the external HD now trying to load them to a MAC. I've used mozilla on both machines, however.

thank you!

Yes, that should be working.

Did you try to restore this JSON backup in the Bookmarks Manager (Library)?

  • Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore > Choose File

Alright, I will try that. Is there any way to add my current bookmarks to the bookmarks I am trying to restore? If I restore it will replace my current bookmarks which will result in losing them right?

Awesome! Thank you so much. Everything worked and I have all of my current and saved bookmarks.

Couldn't be happier, thanks again!
