Firefox Sync Error Message
Hi as of today with Firefox 33.0.2 i have been seeing a error message at the bottom of the screen when ever FF is opened. The message reads - " Sync encountered an error while syncing: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action."
This happens with both of my laptops running the latest stable release of FF being 33.0.2.
I am also using the latest version of Sync using just a password and email address to link computers to the Sync account which has had no trouble until about 3 hours ago.
If i get the above error message then try to do a manual Sync using the Sync tool the message will change to - " Sync encountered an error while syncing: Firefox Sync server maintenance is underway, syncing will resume automatically. Sync will automatically retry this action. "
Reason why i posted here is i tried the Mozilla Twitter feed @mozservices to see if there is any outage or ongoing maintenance but have had no luck.
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Edit - Hi again just thought i would add all i use FF Sync for is just bookmarks between 2 laptops and have never had this issue before today.

hello Mr. News, i think your problem was the same as smithy had. there has been some work carried out on the affected server in the meantime. can you try to restart the browser, sync again & report back if the issue is still occurring? many thanks...

hello, when you type about:sync-log into the address bar and open the latest one or two error logs, can you copy their contents and put them into http://pastebin.mozilla.org/ or a similar service and paste a link here on the forum? this would be very helpful in assessing the problem. thank you!

hello, this appears to be a current server error - there appears nothing wrong on your side. it's probably best to just sit this issue out..

I will check on the laptops with FF and this sync issue again tomorrow and report back to this forum thread when all is ok, then i will mark as solved. :)

I have been having this same error as the OP for about 5 days. Have checked everything, run Places Maintenance, even tried a Firefox uninstall-reinstall. Same error. Here's my latest sync error log:

The sync error message has ceased appearing every time I open Firefox. I believe it has been intermittent over the past few days. I'll post again if it comes back. Meantime, checking to see if sync is actually syncing (with my FF on tablet)...

Just checking back in to report that today FF Sync is working fine now. :)
The server fix has resolved the issue with no more error messages and my bookmarks are happily syncing between my 2 laptops. :)
