not able to add gmail account, correct password used

Trying to set up gmail account. Correct details/password given. Thunderbird failed to find account settings. Using 2-stage verification to log onto google, might this be preventing the setup on Thunderbird?

You need to create an application specific password. Gmail thought this up and they have instructions for it.
