Twitter Retweet does not have a comment box with Firefox as browser
I use both Firefox and Chrome as my browser. Recently, Twitter has added a comment box when you Retweet a message but I only see this additional comments box when I access Twitter via Chrome. If I use Firefox I can only Retweet the original message. I have disabled all add-ons in case any of them is the cause but nothing has changed as far as Retweeting is concerned. I would like to add comments to Retweets in the final days of our election campaign, please help me stir it up.

It's strange that you get a Cancel button and I don't. It's almost like two different versions of Twitter.
Have you cleared Firefox's cache since this problem started? Maybe you are running some older scripts that haven't been refreshed out.
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
- right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
- (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
- click the padlock or globe icon in the address bar > More Information > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page and logging in again. Does that help?

Try Firefox beta, I did not have any trouble retweeting the new FirefoxOS ringtone app. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/

Thank you for replying.
What will happen to my regular Firefox if I download the Beta version. I have saved bookmarks, pinned tabs & add-ons that I'm reluctant to lose. How soon is the Beta version going to become the latest version.
PS. I can Retweet but I just can't add a comment as the comment box on the retweet is missing.

Installing another version of Firefox does not destroy your profile. You can do a backup of it (which is a good idea anyway) if you are nervous about it. You can find your profile from Help > Troubleshooting Information.
Sorry , but I tried that on a previous occasion and I failed until I had step by step instructions from another contributor. Backing up a profile & then copying it to overwrite a later one is not what I would call easy.
Is there a way of sorting this problem out without having to use the Beta version. I don't usually download a new version of Firefox until it is in use for a while. By then most bugs will have been sorted out. I'm sure I'm not the only Firefox/Twitter user experiencing this problem.
When is the next version of Firefox due to be released?
Major release versions of Firefox are released every 6 weeks. Version 38 will be released 6 weeks after 37.0 was released.
Thank you for this information. I will wait for the next FF version and hopefully that will solve the problem. If it doesn't I will probably download the Beta version and back-up my system beforehand as a safeguard. Meanwhile I will use Chrome for Twitter.
Thanks for your help.
I have just updated to Firefox v 38.0.1and the problem with Retweets is still there. Can anybody shed any light on it.
I don't retweet, but I do have a Twitter account...
I see a comment box toward the top of the panel that appears when I click the Retweet button (screen shot attached).
When I right-click that area and use Inspect Element (Q) I don't see anything unusual that might be blocked, for example, for security reasons (second screen shot attached).
If you try the Inspector, can you see whether the comment box is present in the code or completely missing?
Thanks for coming to my rescue. I really appreciate your help. I have attached a screenshot of the problem (no comment box) and have copied the 'element but I don't know what I'm looking for.
I have also tried to get Twitter Support to advise me on this but they have not replied after I supplied a screenshot, the browser & OS details.
New screenshot showing the Element Inspector. It looks as if Retweet footer is without comment or is that not what you are looking for? .

I just has a message from Twitter Support apologising for the fact that I could not comment when Retweeting during the election campaign. That was the first time I wished to use this feature. I take elections very seriously! I asked again if there is a setting to have this comment box on or off or if my account has not been updated properly but I will have to wait some time before I receive a reply. The comment box on a retweet has only been available since 07 April - just in time for the election - so they may not have sorted out the bugs yet.

1. I followed your instructions to the letter cleared cookies & when I got to
"On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"" the casche was zero bytes of disk space. I also deleted all Twitter cookies first, then reloaded the Twitter page with Ctril+shift+R and I still have the same version of Twitter with the same Retweet without a Comment box.
2. Again I have carried out your instructions to the letter & can advise that I like the look of FF V 38.0.1. The bad news is the Twitter problem still exists and I agree that there seems to be an old & a new version of Twitter and the problem does not seem to be with Firefox.
I'm really pleased with the way you responded to my plea and even more so with the amount of time and effort you have put in to trying to resolve this. I will now go back to Twitter "Support" and advise them that Firefox is not the problem. Twitter "Support" is more focused on expanding the number of tweets and users than trying to sort what I call a 'technical' problem.
I will leave this question open until I get a solution from Twitter - if a solution is possible. If you would rather I close the question I will do so,
I noticed people 2 days before I was able to comment on retweets. Yet some retweets I noticed also don't show the comment box... is it a twitter option ?

Have you ever been able to retweet with a comment using the same Twitter account? This is a permanent problem for me, I have never been able to retweet with a comment.
It appears to be a Twitter problem but it is very difficult to get an intelligent response from them. They seem to be more interested in increasing the umber of tweets & accounts.
jscher2000
I had one reply from a Twitter Blogger (they called themselves a Twitter Expert) who thinks that this 'Comment' may not be on all accounts but the Help information assumes everyone has the facility. I have tweeted a few more Twitter people and am waiting for a response - I shall not hold my breath as I started enquiring about this at the beginning of May while our General Election was in full swing. The Retweet with Comment would have been so useful.
If anyone reading this does NOT have the option to Retweet with a Comment, perhaps they could tell me if they know why it is missing.
Looking at the code I notice yours missing a huge chunk from it as mine shows different. side by side.
.btn:focus, .btn.focus, .Button:focus {
box-shadow: 0px 0px 0px 1px #FFF, 0px 0px 0px 3px rgba(59, 148, 217, 0.5);
} .btn:focus, .btn.focus, .Button:focus {
box-shadow: 0px 0px 0px 1px #FFF, 0px 0px 0px 3px rgba(0, 132, 180, 0.5);
} .RetweetDialog-footer .retweet-action {
padding-top: 3px;
Plus mine says ...
"class="t1-form tweet-form condensed RetweetDialog-tweetForm isWithoutComment""
Thinking what version Java do you have?
It might need updated.
Hi mrbunnylamakins, I don't think Java is used for this form. At least in my case, there's no plugin notification in the address bar requesting permission to use Java (I have Java set to "Ask to Activate").
I updated a bunch of stuff this afternoon as I had Windows updates. I will check on Java and make sure it is up to date.
As to the missing code, it is all Greek to me and I rely on you to tell me if their is a problem. The level of help I'm getting from Twitter means that it would be Latin to them.
I requested that they refresh or update my account & received a form to "Appeal an account suspension or locked account". My account is not suspended nor locked so I was prevented from completing the form. I did try as I thought it might get to someone with a few brain cells. I'm just not getting anywhere with Twitter so I either wait and hope it gets sorted sometime soon with an update or I deactivate my account. I'm reluctant to do the latter as I don't wish to set up a new account with a new user name.
Thank you both for your interest and help. I will return and post an update when this ends.
Cheers
I received this reply to my comment that "the FF browser was not the problem so it must be something with my Twitter account"
"Yes, as it turns out, Twitter has turned this off for some users as they fix some issues :("
It is unacceptable that their support could not have told me this at the beginning of May.
I will now close this question as solved and thank you for your help.
PS. Java and all y plug-ins are up to date as I thought.
I now have retweet with a comment and am happily using it. There appears to be bugs in it which causes a problem with scripts. Hopefully it will be debugged shortly.
