I am using the Nightly build which I update daily (Windows 8, 64-bit OS). I recently installed Ghostery and was just beginning to familiarize myself with it. I asked it to block a Soundcloud tracking item on a website I frequent. I didn't know if it would cause the Soundcloud item to not play but I thought I would give it a try and if it broke Soundcloud playback then I could allow the tracking again. Unfortunately, it caused the tab to crash. I uninstalled Ghostery and the website still will not load without crashing--the Soundcloud plugin (which I believe is flash) will load half-way (there is a progress bar) and then the tab crashes. It only occurs on the exact website where I was when I told Ghostery to block the Soundcloud tracking item. If I go to Soundcloud.com, I can play anything without a crash occurring. At first, it would crash even in safemode. I am not sure what has changed but now it will play in safemode. A firefox refresh did not fix the problem. I assume somewhere Ghostery made a change to one of the firefox preference files so that even after Ghostery has been uninstalled the problem it created is still there??? Thanks for any help.

Well, I went to the website just so that I could then go the history and have it listed at the top so I could right-click the entry and chose "forget about this site" and miraculously the site loaded without crashing. It's the first time in weeks I've been able to load that webpage. So, I'm not sure if my problem is solved or not but I take this as a very good sign. Unfortunately, we may never learn the reason behind the problem. Anyway, thanks for everyone's help. I'll be back if the problem recurs.

I understand that is is being caused to crash. I do know that soundcloud uses Adobe Flash. It is quite possible that Ghostery and Flash crash, I would first recommend to disable one of the two to make sure this is the issue and to email the Ghostery developer from their addons.mozilla.org page.

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Here are the five most recent crash reports that begin with bp. Thanks for your help. There were also a number of crash reports that did not start with bp and I click on them to submit them as requested.

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
