When I try to reply to an email, nothing happens-it says loading in the reply box but doesn't load. The error says to reload the page or go to the basic setup. I tried reloading the page and also restarting my computer. Neither one worked. Hope someone knows what's causing this and how to fix it. thanks, Art

What e-mail provider are you using? Do you get the same problem with Win IE?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

  • Clear the Cache and
  • Remove Cookies
Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to.

Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar.

  • Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them.
  • Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

Hi Fred, I'm using Google mail. I haven't yet tried another browser. I will try that. Meanwhile, when I did use the basic config, it worked ok. Of course I don't want to be stuck there.

Are you talking about safe Mode?

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem goes away, that tells us one thing. If it does not, that tells us something else.

No I'm talking about the basic mode display that I'm advised to use when I get that error message.

What basic mode?

This is the msg I get. Something I failed to mention before (I hadn't made the connection) that's independent from Google: Firefox has started to show some pages as code either just before it loads the actual page or it sticks there and doesn't load the page. Basically symbols and question marks. This occurs randomly as far as I can tell. Not every time.

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
