I have recently "refreshed firefox" and now the Primetime Content Decryption Module is not installing. I never had this problem before and I have refreshed firefox multiple times but the Plugin has always installed itself. It keeps saying "Primetime Content Decryption Module provided by Adobe Systems, Incorporated will be installed shortly."

Please reply and Thanks for the help.

Hey thank you to everyone who has been helping to fix this! Firefox v42.0 seemed to fix this issue and now the plugin will download.

Once again thank you!

Re-install the plugins main program. Get the current full installer.

The installer of the OPenH265 plugin comes with Firefox, only the latest version is retrieve from internet. You can check the media.gmp-gmpopenh264.* prefs on the about:config page.

You can try to delete the gmp-gmpopenh264 folder in the Firefox profile folder.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

I went ahead and reinstall Firefox completely, removing profiles as well and the plugin is still waiting to install. I am running 32bit Firefox and this could be a possible bug. I am on version 41.0.2. Should I report this as a bug to Mozilla?

Also FredMcD how do I reinstall the plugins. Thanks to everyone who is trying to help me and anymore suggestions?

This plugin is only used for WebRTC (Hello) for H.264 encoded video, so if you do not use the Hello feature with video then you can ignore it.

Do you mean that a new profile still doesn't work?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that helps.

Thanks cor-el for trying to help but it seems like the plugin will not install. I have tried all of your suggestions but it seems like its broken. I don't think I need the plugin because all you said it was used for is Hello right? I think I will disable it for now but do you think I could possibly file a bug to Mozilla some how? If I can file a bug please tell me how and someone else could be having this issue.

Thanks alot to everyone and please let me know if I could file a bug.

Did you try to click the "Check for Updates" item on the about:addons plugins page?

That installs the plugin for me if I remove the above mentioned folder (gmp-gmpopenh264).

Hey cor-el i tried your suggestion and the only thing that got installed was OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc. The Primetime Content Module seems like it is a seperate plugin.

Thanks cor-el for trying to help but it seems like nothing is working. So should I report this as a bug and how?

Thanks!

I'm on Linux and there is currently no support on Linux and Mac for EME (Encrypted Media Extensions), so I can't test that module. See also:

Thanks cor-el for the fast response. I just wanted to know if I can report this as a bug or not and how to report a bug to Mozilla. I think this is a bug because it seems like there is no other way to fix it. I even tried re-installing. Its not that big of a deal but just a bit annoying. So just want to know if I can report this as a bug.

Sorry for being a trouble to work with. Thanks!

Is this pref set to true if you check that on the about:config page?

  • browser.eme.ui.enabled = true
  • Options > Content: Play DRM

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Thanks cor-el for the response. I do have both of those settings enabled but still no difference. I think I might be stuck. Is there a way to contact Mozilla about this issue? Also sorry to bother you but I have discovered another issue and I started a new post on it here: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../1090918]

If you can please check out my other problem. Thanks you very much cor-el!

There are over 400 bug reports that depend on the implementation of EME and there are still unresolved bugs, so there can still be issues.

What does this mean for my problem and can it be fixed. Also does this mean I can't post a bug report?

Thanks cor-el for trying to help but it doesn't seem like I can solve this my self. Also if you have time please look at my second post.

Thanks alot cor-el for your time and I really appreciate you help!

You can try to reset media.gmp-manager.lastcheck via the right-click context menu and close and restart Firefox.

Hey cor-el I just tried that and no success. Probably a software bug?

I appreciate you trying to help but seems like only Mozilla can fix this one any way to contact them?

Thanks very much cor-el!

It is possible that the PCD module will only be downloaded when you need it on a web page that requires it and has DRM content.

Do you have a need to show such protected content via the HTML5 media player?

more options

Hi cor-el I don't think I need that plugin currently and does the PCD module work with OpenH264 video codec? Also can you give me an example of a webpage or when I would need the PCD module.

Thanks again cor-el!

I have installed Firefox on anyother computer and I have the same issue. It might be a bug in Firefox but older versions seem to work.

I hope this helps you guys to solve my problem. Thanks very much!

I'm on Linux, so currently do not have support for this module. I assume that only a few websites will use this module, possibly Netflix with the HTML5 media player (don't know if this player is used for Firefox or that is still uses Silverlight).

more options

Sorry for late reply. Netflix still uses Silverlight I think because it asked me to install it to watch Netflix. Also can we get someone who is on Windows to help with this problem, and this didn't happen before 41.0.2. This must be a bug on Firefox but I'm not sure.

Thanks very much cor-el and if you can please find someone on Windows who could help. Thanks!
