Unable to connect to Google Contacts, error message says proxy server is refusing connection.

I am able to connect to the internet and use my Gmail account. All other activities seem normal. But when I try to go to Google Contacts, the browser hangs and I get an error message that the Proxy Server is refusing contacts, and please check the proxy settings. I am not using a proxy, and my general proxy setting is set to "No Proxy." I can reach my Google contacts with MS Edge. What is going on?

Just to give more background. I am using Windows 10. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox. Did not correct the issue.
