Can't mail from newest update, no "From" nor "To" at all come up!
When I try to write a new message, or Reply/Forward, the "From" field - including the dropdown box - is absolutely blank. I can choose to enter an address from my addressbook, but it doesn't show up.
This JUST started happening, with the new update, about half an hour ago. The message shown in the screenshot was called up as a "Reply" to a message in my inbox - that doesn't show up either.
Help, please!

Another way to describe this would be that the Addressbook seems to be disconnected from the system. I just tried writing to someone from there - same result.
have you actually tried typing in those dialogs..... they are grey until you use them.
You might also use the contact pane. F9 toggles it's state.
Matt, neither of these suggestions makes any difference. Believe me, I tried everything I could dream up before writing, many times! When I use the contact panel, and use "Add to To", the field in the message comes up blank, but white; if I type directly INTO the field, anything I type goes away the minute I move on.
But what's more - I run several accounts through Thunderbird, and NOTHING shows up in the "From" field, nor can I add anything. Even if I could get something into the "To" fields, there's no "From"! It seems that somehow my contacts are disconnected, and also the things I have in the account profiles.
Is this possibly due to POP vs. IMAP? I use T'bird in POP mode, and let the online email deal with itself (occasionally I go into it and clean up).,
I fear I may have to reinstall Thunderbird, and that's something I've never done alone (my #1 "guru" died over a year ago).
Is this "Troubleshooting Information" of any help? Copied to clipboard per instructions and first part pasted below (2nd part to follow):

Whew! I pasted the whole thing into a text editor and it is LONG!!! You probably don't need all of it. Skipping over the "printer" lines (many of these refer to outdated printers I don't use anymore - is there any way to edit this stuff???), below that is: Graphics

Now I find that I can not even compose a message! If I try to write in the message box, nothing shows up.
Can I uninstall/reinstall without losing my years of archived messages, contacts, etc?
I'd try Thunderbird in Safe Mode. You're using several add-ons I don't know, and so can't be sure they aren't related to your troubles.
YES, this DID solve the problem, Zenos! Now what is next? Do I try reinstating the add-ons I want one by one??
Er....it solved the problem as long as I was in "Safe Mode", but when I exited and re-started, it came back. Should I do what I suggested: re-start the add-ons I really want one by one, and test?

I would take a punt on it being the change quote and reply as it is the one that directly interacts with the compose process. But it is really a guess.
If you have issues with it, drop Paolo an email. He is usually fairly reasonable when bugs occur, although from his recent post on his web site, a bit disillusioned with Mozilla. But then I am in the same camp.
