can't refresh-can't rename profile - task mgr does'nt show firefox as open so how do i close it

firefox crashed. can't get back in. tried refresh from another browser but it won't work. tried changing my profile name but it won't work, says firefox is open. it doesn't show in task manager as open. everything I tried won't work because it says firefox is open & has to be closed. if task manager doesn't show it as open HOW DO I CLOSE SOMETHING THAT ISN'T OPEN.

I renamed my profile but it still wont open, because the file is open but I cant find it anywhere as open. all the help option I read assume i'm in the firefox browser. I spent 2 days trying to fix this problem & if I try a new download I will probably lose all my bookmarks & favorites. i'm ready to throw in the towel with firefox.

What is your computer system and Firefox?

Do you have the Firefox icon on your quick launch? Right click on the icon and select Open New Tab. Sometimes this works. If it opens, close it by Menu > File > Exit.

thank you for taking time to help me, but it doesn't work. it says the old firefox must be closed to open a new window

Just my 2 cents (I'm not really an expert) - a) Reboot your computer? b) Perhaps it's moving up and down in Task manager if you have it sorting by CPU etc. so click on "name" in task manager to sort by name. Maybe it'll be easier to find that way.

Create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
