When I open certain websites and start browsing I find that other websites mainly advertising websites automatically open up in a separate Firefox browser, is there any option in settings I can use to stop that?.

Unfortunately one of these unwanted websites will not let me close the browser and I have to reboot my PC. This problem does not occur if I use chrome but I prefer to use Firefox

Help will be much appreciated regards wsb1

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one. Windows 8 has antivirus built-in already.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Note that the System Details List shows that you have multiple Flash plugins.

  1. Shockwave Flash 21.0 r0
  2. Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0

You can find the installation path of all plugins on the about:plugins page.

You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove older version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32) and possibly (re)install the latest Flash player.

Install the other recommended anti-malware applications. They don't all look for the same things and all should be available as free for personal use or as trial versions for a limited time or limited number of uses.
