ONCE again, I've messed up my Firefox Bookmark Toolbar. I guess this happened when I Restored Firefox. :-(

Now, to the far left of the Bookmark Toolbar I have an option to close Firefox instead of all my Bookmarks being the only thing on that Toolbar. Actually it's like an new tab button. If I click to close it, it shuts down Firefox.

How do I MOVE my Bookmarks over to the left and get that tab off of there. I've added and taken away Toolbars to no avail.

Sorry to be so dumb, but I don't know what else to try.

John99,

I think I MAY have solved the issue. After I did that "Restore", which I will NEVER do again, I think that perhaps I should have added another Toolbar?

I used MOZ Backup and when it restored a previous time, which was better than nothing, I think I should have added the Add-On Toolbar. Right now it's all okay and I'm hoping that's what it was.

You folks have always been a great help to this feeble minded person.

Thank you so much for your prompt response.

Not too sure exactly what you have done, Maybe you have placed your Bookmark items between two tabs on the tabs bar.

If you use customise by right clicking on a blank space within the toolbar or using menu - > customise you should be able to see Bookmark items and drag it back on to the bookmarks toolbar. There is also the [Restore Defaults] option you could try that , but it could undo other changes you have made.

OK thanks for posting bac & glad you seem to have fixed the issue.. I have marked your post as solving the thread.

Note MOZ Backup is no longer being developed and may not be the best thing to use in backing up. I believe FEBE is still popular

Not sure if your restore was with MOZbackup, or whether you are referring to a Windows Restore. Windows Restores probably should be used only as a last resort, they can cause problems.

Yes, I used Moz. I didn't know it was not longer available. I loved it.

I will check out FEBE for sure. Need to be prepared.

Thanks again.

John99,

Well that didn't work. I started to download FEBE and received a message that it was NOT compatible with Firefox 49.0.2. Bummer.

Are there any other valid backups for Firefox that you know of?

Edit|Update FEBE is now fixed v8.9.3.1 See posts lower down in this thread -J99

(Updtate IT WORKS AGAIN FEBE 8.9.3.1 is the current latest version and fixes the FEBE compatibility issue) The extension is still supported and being worked on it is likely to be just a temporary problem. It seems if I understand it correctly that v8.9.2 had an issue with History backups. This was corrected on 7th Nov in v8.9.3 but that breaks in FX49.

I imagine it will be fixed in a few days/weeks. Meanwhile consider making manual backups of profiles or bookmarks, it is not too difficult, and you will possibly only need to make the one backup manually before FEBE is fixed again

It appears v8.9.2 will work - other than for history - I just installed it to check it installed

  1. Use links http://softwarebychuck.com/febe/febe.html ---> & click on the 8.9.2 Install
  2. Use the more link in about:addons --> FEBE to turn off the automatic updates, or it will update and break.
  3. Follow the news on FEBE support
  4. In due course turn on the updates or download the next new version, or follow whatever other advice is posted on the FEBE support site.

Update

I can run the latest incompatible FEBE 8.9.3 by using the addon checkCompatability

I did go as far as making sure it would generate backups including History backups.

I did see a couple of potential problems with it

  1. It's backup on shutdown got into a trace situation with a Mozilla Persona notification that caused it to repeatedly notify but never make a backup - until I got rid of the particular page prior to closedown.
    • (Edit - but that sort of issue is not specific to FEBE or Persona, & now not many people will use Persona)
  2. It's options popup window was taller than the Browser Window, even with the taskbar auto hidden it was not always possible to drag the popups position or fully see the top edge.
    • (Edit See Chuck's |Shadoefax's reply under Winkey Alt+Space options work to enable drab and sizing.)

See this post and this post for a possible solution.
