Firefox ignores cookies Exceptions list for sites: Facebook and LinkedIn

more options

Privacy :: Accept Cookies From Sites :: Exceptions List (aka block list)

For past few updates leading to version 50, Firefox has been ignoring my Cookies Exceptions list. While it blocks a few sites, it doesn't give a damn about Facebook and LinkedIn.

http://facebook.com https://facebook.com https://*.facebook.com

Blocking the above always results in Firefox stoing this Facebook cookie.

I do not understand. After installing version 50, I went straight to Troubleshooting :: Refresh Firefox. This means my cookie block list got deleted and I had to start from scratch. The problem is still here. Is there something in About:Config which has specifically disabled blocking of Facebook and LinkedIn (maybe more).

If you expand the triangle and look at the individual cookies under facebook.com, what domain are they set for?

Does it work any better to use the Permissions panel of the Page Info dialog, or an add-on to set the block? Please see the following reply for more information on those: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1146563#answer-935118

The second part of your reply helped, i.e. go to website, click on the (i) information icon in the location bar and from there: > :: More Information :: Permissions :: Set Cookies (manually select block here).

When I recheked the "Exceptions" window back in Tools::Options::Privacy, I spotted two URL's for facebook, one was http and the other was https.

Now I am wondering how easy it will be for tracking cookies to bypass your Firefox's Cookie Exceptions list just by using https instead.

I think Facebook uses primarily https, but you can block both http and https.
