I downloaded the Thunderbird app and it did not come with the Calendar features as shown in the picture. I'm not able to see any side bars, I don't see any features in File> New, etc.

I tried to install the add-on and it just disappears every time it's done and I need to restart Thunderbird. I've tried to download it many times from the webpage (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/addon/lightning/) as well as by searching it through Tools > Add ons.

Please help!

No, it should work with the current version, although my assumption is the reporter of the other question may have run into the issue after updating from 45.1.0, so you could try that version.

I’m currently not aware of other solutions than the workaround on copying a file as described in that particular bug (see comment 3) as well as in this question, and the fact that there have been more reports of the issue. Can you take a look at that question and follow the advice(s) there?

Another thing you could do (even before that) is disable all other extensions and restart TB. If it does appear, some other add-on may be causing conflicts (or Lightning has trouble working with that add-on.) Enable the other add-ons one by one to find out which one that is.

Please have a look at this question first. Is your issue similar? Not that I can explain it at this point, other than that you may suffer a reported but unconfirmed bug.

Try opening the Config Editor (in Thunderbird > Preferences > Advanced panel > General tab) and toggle the javascript.options.baselinejit preference to false.

Alternatively, you could downgrade Thunderbird and leave updates disabled for the time being.

Either way, you should not need to install Lightning separately. It may be best to uninstall the add-on, then toggle the preference, then uninstall Thunderbird, and then reinstall Thunderbird.

Can you report back?

Unfortunately none of these methods seemed to work.

1. Toggled javascript.options.baselinejit to false and restarted. No changes. 2. Uninstalled and downgraded. No changes. (http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/40.0b1/mac/en-GB/) 3. I can't even disable or uninstall the Lightning add-on because it simply disappears once I have downloaded it and restarted Thunderbird.

Please let me know if you have any other solutions.

Why are you using Thunderbird version 40 beta? Does the issue also occur for the current version? And in the en-US version?

I was having problems initially with the current version, so with your downgrading suggestion I selected version 40. Should I try another?

Finally works now after installing 45.1.0 and installing Lightning as an add-on. The add-on no longer disappears and successfully loads once I restart Thunderbird.

Thank you!
