Thunderbird stops responding when deleting,or switching to new email Windows (ugh!) 10

When Deleting or switching to new email I get error message"thunderbird not responding" plus red X top right corner. After waiting a couple of minutes email is deleted or switches to new message. Winows 10

Start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled - win10 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

Does problem go away? Please reply to let me know results.

I'm not going to run windows in safe mode for x number of hours/days just to see if this problem goes away. Any more suggestions because I'm seriously thinking of switching to another email program just to rid myself of this problem!
