I want to receive all emails by date in descending order (newest date first) for all accounts permanently, not on by clicking on date received.. How do I do this?

Thunderbird opens just like you closed it. If your preferences are not sticking you have something modifying your prefs.js file. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Prefs.js_file

Software like CCleaner is known to do this and worse.
