don't want firefox to update

Hi all, having an odd issue with Firefox here. I do NOT want to update to 55.0.3 I NEED to stay on 54.0.1

Unfortunately, 55.0.3 breaks a database needed for work. I can not access it. Whatever was changed, breaks the functionality.

So, I have under about:preferences#advanced "Check for updates, but let you choose whether to install them" selected.

Even so, every time I start firefox it updates WITHOUT MY PERMISSION to 55.0.3, and I have to manually downgrade.

I also have "Use a background service to install updates" UNCHECKED, but it still updates.

And for what it's worth, I have only ONE profile, there are no other profiles that may be complicating the issue. Just one and only one.

So, that said, why is Firefox updating? I am not happy with the intrusive, unallowed, FORCED updates on MY computer system.

Type about:preferences#advanced<enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select Update. Check the settings.

Also turn off Use a background service to install updates

You can consider to use the Firefox 52.3.0 ESR version if you can't use the current release. That way you will still receive security updates. If you need to use plugins other than Flash then install the 32-bit Firefox 52 ESR version.

Thanks, I'll look into that one. It did it again today, and again I had to revert. I don't what changed that broke it, but it did. Hopefully the ESR version you linked not only works, but stays that way for a long time. I'll report back once I've tried it. Thanks!

Firefox 52 will be the current ESR version and receive security updates until about May 2018 when it will be succeeded by Firefox 59 ESR.
