After initiating Firefox its size continues growing and I can not stop it from doing so. I verify there is only one copy running so there are no dups. Things get so slow I finally shut it down and go to another browser which stays at a reasonable size. Right now Firefox is at 433,344 K and growing. What can I do to keep this under 100,000 K?

thanks toucango

433,344 K is about 500M which is reasonable for a browser if it is accessing sites uses heavy frameworks. I don't see a problem here unless the number keeps increasing unreasonably (it is not in this case).

Can you check the memory usage when you access just this support page.

Problems continue. have just updated latest Mozilla version = size seems more reasonable but I have 6 versions of various sizes shown on Windows task master. I can eliminate the smaller ones but then the active one and session cancels. At startup I click Mozilla only 1 time. This is all new since last auto update of Windows and Firefox. Any thoughts?

So what your saying is the Memory it uses slowly creeps up as it just idles?

You have two weird extensions showing in the System Details list.

  • InternetSpeedTracker 8.405.12.16937 (_9tMembers_@free.internetspeedtracker.com)
  • WeatherBlink 8.405.12.20704 (_gcMembers_@www.weatherblink.com)

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Current Firefox releases have multi-process windows enabled. You may see three or more Firefox processes running.

  • one process for the main Firefox thread (user interface)
  • one or more processes for content threads set via "Options/Preferences -> General -> Performance" (dom.ipc.processCount)
  • one process for the compositor thread (Windows)

You can look in "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) to see the current multi-process state.

  • "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" -> "Application Basics":
    Multiprocess Windows
    Web Content Processes
