Control-F does nothing in Firefox

So in Chrome I can use control-F to find a word on a page. Particularly useful in technical systems training. This function in Firefox is hopeless! Control-F opens a dialogue at the bottom of the page and reports X found - but nothing is visible above... no highlight - rendering the function useless :-( I have read a few questions about this on blogs but nothing works

That's quite strange, it works for me very nice. Try to go to about:config and set findbar.modalHighlight = true.
