Unresponding script

At least once a day, I get the message:

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

This totally hangs up everything on my Mac until I can get to Thunderbird & stop the script.

Rhat can I do?
