Hey there, I used to save my session with lots of open tabs by right-clicking on a tab and choose 'bookmarks for all tabs' or smth. That function seems to be gone since the last update of firefox? Is that 4 real? Thank you very much!

Okay, after further research (and testing in Firefox 65):

The item on the right-click context menu now is sensitive to whether you have selected tabs:

  • Only one active/selected tab: "Bookmark Tab" - applies to the right-clicked tab
  • Multi-selected tabs: "Bookmark Tabs... - applies to the selected tabs

How does multi-selecting work? It's similar to file selection in Windows Explorer:

To add tabs to your selection (the current tab is already included), you can either:

  • Ctrl+click another tab to add it to the selection
  • Shift+click a tab further down the bar to select a range of tabs
  • right-click any tab > Select All Tabs

Tabs in the selection will all have the blue line along the top like the active tab. It's a little subtle...

To remove a single tab from the selection, Ctrl+click it again.

To cancel the selection, left-click any tab.

Is that what you see in Firefox Beta (Firefox 64)?

Edit: The Ctrl+Shift+d keyboard shortcut (or on Mac Command+Shift+d) should still work. The command should still be available on the Bookmarks menu that drops from the classic menu bar if you trigger it using the keyboard: Alt+b.

PJ - I don't have the bookmark all option on the Bookmarks drop down. And still annoyed that they took away the right click option. And yes control-shift-d works but as you say it doesn't actually say that is what it is doing.

I just don't understand the decision to take away an elegant simple solution.

"Bookmark All Tabs" is only present in the Bookmarks menu when you open the menu bar via the keyboard (e.g. Alt+B). If you use the mouse then this item is hidden.

Thank you.

Again I argue this is another ridiculous programing decision. Why should I have to spend hours searching the internet to find out that there are two different menus depending on how I access it. Just like taking away the right click ability to bookmark all tabs, I simply don't understand the programing decisions.

  • I also 'sometimes' don't see 'Bookmark All Tabs'. I do when I use the keyboard command of Alt-B, however. (Or use Control-SHIFT-D for the pop-up box to 'Bookmark All Tabs'.
  • You don't have the Bookmark ALL Tabs option with Alt-B drop-down Menu?

Yes when I hit Alt-B I do see the bookmark all option. Sorry I missed that it wasn't visible selecting via mouse.

I still think it is incredibly inexplicable and frustrating that Firefox took away the right click functionality and that you only see the bookmark all option by invoking the menu via Alt-B. Perhaps in the next software update they can require that I stand on my head and press five keys on the keyboard to see that menu choice. Arghhh

LoL! I think that's for FF 77. (Grin)

When the UI gets changed, 2 power users get a thrill and it loses the accumulated skill and familiarity of a WHOLE LOT OF USERS. A stable interface is essential.

YOU GUYS CHANGE STUFF JUST TO CHANGE IT You do this a lot. It decreases my utility

STOP IT or do you like chasing folks away?

Hi soltesr, here in support we work with the Firefox we have today and can suggest relevant features, available settings changes, and workarounds such as add-ons. You can submit feedback and complaints through the following links:

Meanwhile, to summarize the status in Firefox 64:

Tab Context Menu

Bookmark All Tabs was replaced by Bookmark Tab(s) which bookmarks the selected tab(s). You can do the two-step:

  • Select All Tabs
  • Bookmark Tabs

Bookmarks Menu

On Windows, Bookmark All Tabs is available on the Bookmarks menu on the classic menu bar only if you activate it using the keyboard: press Alt+b

You know what's a real easy solution? Switching to Chrome. Which now, I am finally doing. Chrome, right click any tab, 'bookmark all tabs', right there, like it's supposed to be. Goodbye Mozilla, enough is enough.

jscher2000 - you work for Mozilla? (sorry I am a novice to this forum so I don't understand who is in this thread).

Thanks for the thoughtful response about ways to provide feedback. But again there is no explanation for why this functionality was taken away. Instead the "solution" is for users to complain and fill out a bunch of forms to try to get it back. It puts the work onto the user.

No, I'm one of the volunteers here.

But again there is no explanation for why this functionality was taken away.

As best I can tell, this is one of many changes that came with the ability to multi-select tabs, from "one or all" commands to "one or selected" commands. Should it have been "one or selected or all"? I understand why that would be more convenient for people posting in this thread, but I don't know if anyone suggested that during testing, so it might never have been considered.

I ended up eventually figuring this out on my own after a bit of time, but ended up here upon a search to see how many people were also having this issue and find out if the "bookmark all tabs" option was actually intended to be removed. Reading the replies to this question, it appears it has.

Deliberately choosing to do so, in my mind, is following the exact same concept that Windows 10 seems to be based entirely upon.. making simple, commonly used functions in to complicated, multi step, non-intuitive processes that appear to be based on clearly faulty logic or direct hostility to it's users. This same concept appears to have also been used to register an account on this forum. No link to create account when trying to reply... so let's try support main page... no link.. I had to ask a new question, verify it wasn't any suggested questions that have answers, type in a fake question, re confirm it hadn't yet been answered based on my inquiry, then had the option to create an account, created, taken to question entry field, switched tabs back to this question, reloaded tab and clicked "reply", "error not authorized". Was this because the registration process didn't tell me to check my email verification? GOOD THING I KNEW IT DIDN'T and that was the problem, otherwise I have a whole new puzzle to solve to simply register an account.

It's ****ing ridiculous.
