If you only need Java for one site, you could use the portable Firefox 52.9.0 ESR, as it will not interfere with your Firefox release version and Profiles (assuming you will be using a supported Windows version and the latest Firefox version).

Or you could visit that site using Windows IE, as it is the only browser that (still) supports Java.

Note that websites need to use Java Web Start to launch a Java application in an external standalone window instead of using an applet to open this application embedded in a web page. Websites that want to use Java need to adapt and make the change to this way to launch a Java application.

A Java Web Start JNLP file is basically a XML file that the server sends as application/x-java-jnlp-file and that is opened by the default application for this MIME type (Java Web Start). Java then handles everything on its own, but there is no longer embedding possible like a plugin offers. Java registers this MIME type when you install the Java program.

Without getting technical, Java Plugins aren't supported in any modern browser for the last few years. So it's not just an issue with Firefox.

The use of Flash has gone down due to HTML5 players being used for video, audio and games to be more cross platform compared to Flash.

Even Chromium, Chrome, and Opera dropped support of NPAPI Plugins (which includes Java from Oracle) way back in Sept 2015.

Hi JayneJ, as a workaround, you can use Internet Explorer 11 for that site.

Thank you all -- I was using IE 11 but it's not stable on my windows 7 system. FYI talked to my banks tech support folks and they are aware of the issue and don't plan to do anything about it. Their solution was to buy a new computer, use my cell phone for all transaction (don't have cell service at my home), or to go to my nearest branch (200 miles from my home). Just called the branch manager & asked if she was aware of the problem & tech supports response --- Thank you all for your help!

That goofy bank shouldn't be using Java. If they are, they should've been swamped with numerous complaints, because most folks these days are browsing WITHOUT the Java Add-on program.

If the complaints are very few, then are you sure we're not talking about JavaSCRIPT? JavaScript is commands in plain text for browsers and is used everywhere. Java is a program, an executable.

I know my online banking works ok with FF and Avast's ' Banking Mode ' in its browser. I haven't had Java (different than JavaScript) in years. Java is old and a security risk.
