Hi basic792, in Firefox, are you working in a webmail site such as Gmail or Outlook?
Or was your question about the separate Thunderbird program?

I am using Thunderbird, and each time I try to search for an email, it starts with the oldest email, rather than, in my opinion, it should start with the latest, or at a minimum, give me the option of where to start.
By the way, I have been using Thunderbird for over 20 years, and really do not want to change to another mail program!
Thanks for your future help.
I think you need to realize that Thunderbird stores all your mail in a single file. oldest first as the file get new mail appended on the end.
SO your choice is show the old ones first as it does, or hold them back until the end of the file is read to display the newer emails first as they will always be the last read from file.
The global search (Ctrl+K) does not suffer this limitation. But it uses the faceted search to refine what is listed.

You say to hold them back until the end of the file is read. But how do I do that? I do not delete messages, so i have all of my messages for the year! Over 2,000 messages! Can you tell me why the search would start at the beginning of the file, rather than the end?
You can't change the order in which the search processes the mail folders, but if you're using Global Search, Ctrl+K, click 'Open as list' to show the results in a new tab, and then click the Date column button to display them in ascending or descending order.

Ok, I pressed Ctl-K, and got another copy of my inbox, but it did not let me scroll above the first one in my inbox!
What I need to do is find an email that I received within the last month, and in today's environment, that is a lot of emails, most not important! How exactly do I use the Ctrl-K, where do I select 'Open as list' ?
'Open email as list' is under the histogram in Global Search (see picture). To search an account for a message received within the last month, right-click the folder, Search Messages, and apply a filter as in the 2nd picture.

Your explanation is very confusing. I am using Thunderbird on my PC, version 60.7 (32 bit). I have tried everything you tell me, but no way can I find to see the most recent emails first! You use terms that I do not understand, such as Global Search, and how to get to it! Is there a way to download all messages to a file that I can then search or re-order to newest first?
As for the pictures you attached, They really do not tell me anything.
I need help,please!
