How are the permissions granted Disconnect for Facebook any better than allowing Facebook to access what it wants?

I was ready to install the Disconnect for Facebook add-on, but am finding that the permissions necessary to be granted are an extreme invasion of privacy and even a possible security risk, allowing the add-on to access my data for all websites and access browser tabs.

Could someone please explain how this is any better than allowing Facebook to track whatever it wants to? Neither appears to be a good option to me.

If you are talking about the add-on permissions, that's referring to permissions for the add-on, not Facebook.

Naturally, I have no idea what this specific add-on doing in the background, but generally speaking the add-on would need to Access your data for all websites simply to see what website you are trying to load so that it can block Facebook-related ones.

It sounds much more sinister than it actually is.

Hope this helps.

SIDENOTE: Are you aware that Mozilla has released the Facebook Container extension to do the same thing it sounds like you are trying to do?
