I've been having a few problems, but it boils down to a hopefully simple problem.

1. Setting up Profiles (v68.0.1 64bit) When I create a new shortcut with the following targets, it always starts my default profile... if it even works at all. "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" - P "Work" "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" - P "Personal" ... Yes, I know that profiles are case sensitive. No, it doesn't seem to make a difference. Running "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -P" does launch the profile tool... but only shows the 2 profiles and no real options other than to start the profile, delete it or add a new one.

2. On iOS there is no clear way to switch between Profiles, if that is even possible?

3. I use LastPass on my personal and work account. When I add LastPass to both profiles... it REMEMBERS my other account. This should be impossible. I don't want the profiles to speak to each other. At all.

These are trivial things to do in Chrome. Am I just missing something? Please provide some suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Hi WrathWolf, When you want to create a shortcut to a specific profile you need to use the path & full profile name. For example: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -profile "%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\1h218lzi.Test Profile"

As far as LastPass is concerned, I think you need to have an account for each profile to keep the information separate.

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" - P "Work"
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" - P "Personal"

When you use the -P syntax with the profile name, there shouldn't be a space between the - and the P.

Running "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -P" does launch the profile tool... but only shows the 2 profiles and no real options other than to start the profile, delete it or add a new one.

Did you need other options?

I haven't heard of this feature on mobile, but I very rarely use iOS.

The LastPass extension communicates with an external installation of LastPass or a cloud-based password vault. The data you store in LastPass is not profile-specific. But where is the problem in having an "all knowing" LastPass in each profile? Also, it's different in Chrome??

Is there a file that I am supposed to point to? I didn't see a .profile or anything like that. When I point it at the folder, it just gives me the Profile tool popup and asks me which Profile I want to start instead of a direct link. ... But this is way better than it was. Thanks!

What I put: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P "%AppData%\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xlfjf3jo.Work" "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P "%AppData%\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\trq21ure.default-1563822157189"

That must have been some weird formatting issue. There is no space.

No, just to make it work

I have 2 separate LastPass accounts. One that is managed by my enterprise, the other is my personal account. If I login to my personal account on my personal profile, then open my work profile... it sees and tries to use my personal LastPass. If I logout and change it to my work, it affects my personal profile. Yes this is a problem. No it does not do the same thing in Chrome.

  • I would like to switch from Chrome.  :)

But I need to figure out these last issues.

Thanks again for any help!

The -P is used with the name, the -profile is used with the path.

AH HA! Thanks! That did the trick!

Now I just need to figure out the last part. Having separate versions of the addons for each profile.
