I found a solution (see attached) that said to uncheck the "read only" box the the "profile folder" and it solved the problem. However, the box will NOT stay unchecked. It automatically goes back to being checked.

My problem is not quite solved. The box will NOT stay unchecked. It automatically goes back to being checked. Therefore my problem remains.

I had this problem, & resorted to closing the browser via task manager a few times, before giving up & turning my laptop off for a bit. Just rebooted it only to find there was no further pop-up message when I started Firefox, however all my add-ons, etc. are gone!

Do you mean you see a real checkmark in the read-only box, or is there only a green block?

Only the former means that the folder is read-only. A green block merely indicates that it is possible that there are read-only files present and you would need to check each file yourself to be sure.

It's black, not green.

What matters is whether there is a checkmark in the box, like you would normally see if you enable an option. If there is no checkmark then this option isn't enabled. You can test that by forcing a checkmark (click the box a few times to cycle through the various choices).
