So i have gone to Tools -> options - > applications and changed the application in the drop down to both ask every time and my desired applications, and it always says this address could not be understood. I have also gone to about:config and enable the handler.expose to true. And no magnet links work i have to go to chrome for it to work. I have tried with torrents and other magnet links and none of them work

I had this problem too.

I "solved" it by right clicking on "magnet link" and then choose "copy link location"(I hope I translated this right.)

After that you can put the link in any program you want. I mostly use magnet links to download torrents and only a few days ago, I noticed that just clicking on it suddenly does work...

Hope this helps.

Greetings from Belgium!!

This solution does enable the target to be downloaded but does not resolve the issue of the magnet link button not working.

I'd rather have a proper fix than a temporary work around.

Torrents work, magnets don't. I, too, have to right click on the magnet link and select Copy and then paste it into Chrome. The attached jpg shows what Tools > Options > Applications shows in my Firefox 72.02 updated today ( January 20, 2020 )

As we can see, the Torrents will be handled by qbittorent, but there is no entry listed for magnet links.
