If you need a VPN that runs at startup then look at Mozilla VPN. This application works system wide at the OS level, but it isn't free.

Firefox VPN is a Firefox extension and thus only runs when you start Firefox with a profile where this extension is installed.

Thanks for the reply but I need a VPN that starts on boot up. Theoretically someone could retrieve my data in the time it takes for my desktop to load, start Firefox browser and ensure the VPN is running. Great browser though, been using it for years. Cheers
