I first had lost my home button on the toolbar. I opened customize toolbar and it was there at the bottom. Also my added extensions could be seen there. I dragged the Home button over and it was added to the area on the right, but nothing on the toolbar. I tried troubleshooting, nothing helped, I tried refreshing Firefox. That did nothing as well. My extensions have been disabled by safe mode and I still have no Home button.

Have you checked the overflow on the far right? >>

It’s possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Type about:support in the address box and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder

Linux: Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Directory. To its right press the button Open Directory.

Delete all extensions* files and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

After, restart Firefox.

See "Corrupt extension files"

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++ You may have to approve the updating once again.

Thanks. I'm not sure if this was really what I wanted to do. It was a major pain, and I had to re-install all my extensions. The process also revealed to me something in the compatibility.ini file that I never intended or desire. It seems Firefox used an old recovered directory in a drive where I had a previous installation of Firefox (so it is buried deep in a drive location I might have easily deleted because I don't use any of what I had recovered there. To be clear, I had recovered lost data and files from another drive that no longer even exists. The recovery was done into a drive that exists, but in a folder that designated the source as another computer and another drive. I hope that is not too confusing. Anyway, I'd prefer that the Firefox installation be not deeply buried and perhaps on my system drive (although I'm not sure that's a great idea since it is a SSD). It's not a space problem. There's p lenty of space on the SSD, but should I be avoiding applications on there that do a lot of drive access?

So, anyway, I did follow your instructions, but I have two undesired results: first, all my extensions are showing on the toolbar where before I think I had an overflow icon (like you do in Google Chrome), and the bulk of the extensions would show up in a dropdown. Maybe I'm confusing this with Chrome? OK, about the Home button. It still does not appear, at least not where I expect it (between the refresh arrow and the url bar). Am I asking too much? It seems now I have to go to the two right pointing carets at the end of the extension list. When I click on that, I see the Home and Customize toolbar options. Is that the way I have to access the Home button?

In Firefox 87+ the Library and the Home button aren't present by default on the Navigation Toolbar and you need to drag them out of the Customize palette to the toolbar.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure I had tried that from the beginning, but didn't work. Now, after I went through the suggestions from FredMcD, I was able to drag it to that position where I had always seen it before.
