Read email messages still highlighted in bold

Using Thunderbird 91.4.1. Incoming messages are highlighted in bold as unread. Thunderbird used to unbold these messages after opening/reading them, now they remain bolded after opening them. To unbold them now I have to manually mark them as read. What can I do to get Thunderbird to unbold read messages? Thanks.

Check settings:

Menu app icon > Preferences > General scroll down to 'Reading & Display' section select checkbox: 'Automatically mark maessages as read' Select 'Immediately on display' (when you select email in thread Pane and it opens in 'Message Pane', it gets marked as read)
