Upgrading to 102
How can I upgrade my existing Thunderbird installation from 91 to 102 or later? I am using Linux, and my distro (Ubuntu Studio) gave me 91 from its repos. I have used Thunderbird for many years and have always been able to continue using it with the same email accounts, messages, and settings, regardless of which OS I changed to, even when moving from one computer to another, via copying the profile. Now that does not seem to work with version 102. I tried importing existing settings and emails into 102 via its Import option, but it failed. After restarting, it lists my email accounts, but not folders nor any emails. It gives an error, but says I have to check the Error Console to find out what that error is. What is the Error Console?

Advice. Migrate from TB 91 to TB 102 without any problems

Then how did you upgrade to v102 in the first place?
I'd advise against upgrading at this time. Thunderbird 102 is still very much work-in-progress with many features destined for version 102 still incomplete and various bugs not fixed in the current release version. There are problems with folder corruption (including dataloss), a yet incomplete new address book, problems with NNTP, and filters. I'd stay on v91.11.0 for the time being. There will still be a v91.12 and 91.13. By then hopefully the issues with 102 have been fixed.
To carry on with v91 you do need a backup of your v91 profile, you cannot downgrade a v102 profile.
I have to check the Error Console to find out what that error is. What is the Error Console?
Press Ctrl-Shift-J.
What if you didn't have any choice, and Thunderbird just dumped 102.2.0 on you overnight?
That's what's happened to me, and now it's not recognizing folders (though they're right where they were before the "upgrade") and invalidating filters connected with them. Haven't had time to find out what else is messed up -- just got back to being able to open messages when I click on them.
