Clicking and dragging URL to bookmarkonly saves URL, not page title

I mainly bookmark pages by clicking and dragging the URL to my bookmarks sidebar as I've always found this to be more convenient. After the last two Firefox updates, this method no longer saves the page title, just the page URL.

In the attached image, the URL and resulting bookmark from dragging it to the sidebar are circled in red. The expected title is circled in orange. An example of an older (correctly titled) bookmark is circled in green. This is not a page specific issue, as it happens on every webpage.

CTRL+D as well as pressing the star icon in the navigation bar still work as expected, bookmarking pages with their correct titles.

I'm sorry to say that the issue still occurred in troubleshoot mode, after turning off hardware acceleration (also tested troubleshoot mode with this), after disabling all extensions, after refreshing firefox, and after reinstalling.

However, in another thread I've found that dragging the tab itself into the sidebar is a possible workaround, which does work for me.

Edit: Marking as solved since there seems to be no easy fix and I've found the workaround of click-dragging the tabs themselves.

Quick addition, I tried refreshing firefox, though this did not fix the issue.

more options

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or if userChrome.css/userContent.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the Default System theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window
