Upgraded to latest Firefox and now all my bookmarks are gone

I cleared my cache and cookies, had to restart my pc - macbook pro. After opening Firefox, I was signed out. I had to ask for password reset and once signed in, it looks like all my bookmarks are gone!

How do I recover them pls? I did not saved them anywhere or made a copy of those.

thanks Paul, this does not solve my problem. It seems all the old profiles are gone after Firefox update. I went into the article on recovering old profiles, but this seems to only describe how to back up bookmarks, which does not help either.. seems my bookmarks are gone for good
