Hello! I updated FLOORP on the 5th May, FLOORP crashed and then Brave, Firefox, Waterfox, LibreWolf and Vivaldi started crashing. I had Brave and Vivaldi open when I launched FLOORP and FLOORP asked consent to update itself and after updating, it did not open in “previous session” and I could not open “previous session” through History. When I launched “Settings” from menu, “previous session” opened! I had pinned “Settings” earlier.

Now the bizarre happens; suddenly LibreWolf launches by itself also without “previous session” and open tabs in Brave and Vivaldi disappear to single New Tab. After some tinkering, I was able to restore “previous session” in LibreWolf, Brave and Vivaldi.

Now I close all browsers and open Firefox, no “previous session” and some random windows in its history, opening these random windows also opened “previous session”! 🙄But then Waterfox launches also without “previous session”, here clicking on OneTab extension recovered “previous session”.

Cutting short; I uninstalled, Waterfox, LibreWolf and FLOORP, this did not help, I ran System Restore twice to two different points and it has not resolved the issue.

Thankful for any help!

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted (and Unsubmitted, if any) Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Thank you for your help!

More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

Hello Paul!

Thank you for your fast response!

I followed your instructions and pasted “about:crashes” and it says “Inga kraschrapporter har skickats in.” (Swedish); “No crash reports sent in.”

Best regards,

Hello again,

I just want to clarify my initial posting,

-- Now I close all browsers and open Firefox, no “previous session”, BUT some random windows in its history, opening these random windows also opened THE “previous session”! 🙄 THEN Waterfox launches BY ITSELF, without “previous session”, here, clicking on OneTab extension recovered “previous session”. --

Hello Paul,

Any fix yet?

If Brave is open and I launch Firefox, there is an empty pop up that flashes and launching again results in a new tab not previous session and I cannot find previous session in history only random tabs. As I learned earlier by chance launching settings restores previous session.

This could be; as I always pin settings.

Hello Firefox,

I remember the good old days with Firefox, but I guess that is now the past, unfortunately. Paul is distinctive with his disregard towards me and the issue I seek resolution to. Firefox cannot expect its user to hang in limbo, at least some words in reply would have been helpful, but this silence is torturously cruel of Firefox.

Maybe it is best in both our interests to throw Firefox in the garbage and make the best of what is available elsewhere. This issue originated with FLOORP, and I am today experiencing inconvenience when launching Firefox.

Best regards,

Hi Rajendra

Please try to appreciate that we are volunteer contributors doing our best to help.

If you are able to submit crash reports when Firefox crashes, we may be able to look at the reports that you have submitted (if you supply the crash ID). This support article will help:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozillacrashreporter

That said, for you to be experiencing multiple web browsers crashing at the same time suggests that there is a problem with your computer. Have you made sure that all software on the computer is fully up to date?

Hi Paul,

It’s no excuse Paul, if you cannot handle it, then just say it; so that I can troubleshoot myself or reinstall Firefox; Why portray yourself as victim?! Were you forced to be a volunteer for Firefox?

Do you even comprehend my initial posting you seem to only focus on the word “crash” even after I mention there are no crash reports.

Firefox says no crash reports, Brave has crash reports. Apparently, Firefox displays as crashing to me since about:crashes does not generate crash reports as it does in Brave, so there has to be a cause for this quirky behaviour.

My Surface Pro is working just fine, it is updated and I have scanned for virus, ran SFC Scannow, ipconfig /flushdns, all my apps are running just fine. It’s absurd that you suggest that my device is at fault without doing basic troubleshooting, I am a Professional in my Profession, my colleagues and friends are Professionals and this would be considered as sacrilege.

Firefox is the one which is not running as it should, Brave has stabilized and I have sent Brave the crash reports.

So why does Firefox launch by itself when I launch Brave? Vivaldi does not, Pale moon does not. As updating FLOORP, a fork of Firefox, triggered this issue with Firefox, I was hoping to get some perspective from this forum, to avoid this in future.

But you just ignored me, was it contempt? Shame on you! To keep me hanging on a cliff! Obviously, you do not comprehend the issue and I am sorry that I couldn’t explain in ways that Firefox could make a diagnosis.

There are postings on the web about similar issues but no resolutions.

You could have suggested to reinstall Firefox, at least…

I will never touch FLOORP even with thousand-meter pole.

I was a fan of Firefox now I doubt this browser. I do not need Firefox to live a productive life!

Hello Firefox,

My grievance is due to Paul not replying to my feedback to his reply from 5/7/24, he could have provided feedback, I could have looked for other approaches to resolve the issue.

I am surprised that Paul is listed as the top ten contributors, which makes me question the integrity of this forum!

Firefox was once a benchmark.

Firefox, you could search the internet for A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) and Bots, they can singlehandedly and efficiently replace Paul in auditing crash reports!

You will thank me later!

No need to defame support volunteers, unless you're just a troll.

> So why does Firefox launch by itself when I launch Brave?

That's definitely not normal. Try using Process Explorer to see if you can track down what process is starting Firefox. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer

That only happens when Brave is already open?

Hello jscher2000,

Thank you for your reply!

jscher2000, you are like a hero to me! You are one of the reasons I use Firefox! I would give you a great big bearhug and shower praises 🙂

That said, Paul did not reply to my reply about; about:crashes on 5/7/24, 5:25 AM until 5/9/24, 12:55 PM. That is not kind or professional! So my criticism is justified and not trolling or defaming but intended to be constructive, I was confused by what was happening with Firefox and if Paul did not have an answer, he should have updated me so that I could seek elsewhere for solution.

I did some troubleshooting,

I installed Google Chrome, Google Canary, Naver Whale; the behaviour with Firefox and Brave did not change nor did those browsers affect Firefox, neither Vivaldi or Palemoon.

Yesterday, Monday, I uninstalled ALL browsers, I could not uninstall Firefox as it not SHOW in Control Panel_Uninstaller, instead I deleted the Mozilla Firefox folder in C: Program Files.

I reinstalled Firefox and Brave, after sometime Brave was not launching with previous session. Today I uninstalled Brave and now Firefox is not launching with previous session and its the same as before that launching settings restores previous session, this with Brave uninstalled.

Both when Brave is open or closed.

Opening Brave launches Firefox and also vice versa, the same happened with FLOORP, Waterfox and LibreWolf before I uninstalled them.

I have today downloaded and installed Procexp64.exe and I don’t know what to look for, right now I lack time to research this and I wouldn’t want to waste your time.

Let's focus on how Firefox works (or doesn't work). First step:

New Profile Test

This takes about 3 minutes, plus the time to test your problem site(s).

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

Take a quick glance at the page and make a mental note of which Profile has this notation: This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted. That is your current default profile.

Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next. Assign a name like Test2024, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.

Firefox will switch your default profile to the new one, so click the Set as Default Profile button for your regular one to avoid an unwanted surprise at your next startup.

Scroll down to Test2024 and click its Launch profile in new browser button.

Firefox should open a new window that looks like a brand new, uncustomized installation. (Your existing Firefox window(s) should not be affected.) Please ignore any tabs enticing you to connect to a Sync account or to activate extensions found on your system to get a clean test.

Turn on automatic session restore on the Settings page. Open couple tabs. Close the window. Then use the Launch button to test whether Firefox can restore your session normally in the new profile.

When you are done with the experiment, you can close the extra window without affecting your regular Firefox profile. (Test2024 will remain available for future testing.)

Should there be 2+1 profiles here? I have not created any other profiles

Yes, it is normal to find default -- never used -- and default-release -- primary profile. The long number on the folder name for your default-release profile indicates that a Firefox Refresh ran at some point. I think the number is an epoch encoded date for when the refresh ran, which would have been about 25 hours ago.

So next step....

Does that mean no weird stuff happens when you launch Firefox in the new profile from the about:profiles page?

Next question: how do you normally start Firefox? Does your shortcut have any command line parameters? To check on that right-click the shortcut > Properties. If you pinned the shortcut, right-click the Taskbar button, then right-click the program name near the bottom (typically Firefox, sometimes followed by a number), then you can access properties.

On the Shortcut tab, check the Target line. This is the typical content of that line:

"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

Do yours have anything after that?
