I prefer to use Startpage as my search engine with Firefox on my Mac. I have that set up, but it's so annoying that when I put something in the address or search bar, no search happens. Instead, I just get the Startpage home page and then have to retype the same thing in there! How do I solve this?

Do you recall how you set it up originally?

What I would suggest to try and reset it is:

  • Going to the settings and checking the Search section.
  • Under "Search Shortcuts" there might be a "Startpage" entry.
  • If there is, click the line and then click remove.
  • Now visit "startpage.com"
  • Right-click on the address bar, and there should be an 'Add "Startpage Search"' entry.
  • Select that.
  • You may want to go back into settings and re-select it as the default search engine.

Hopefully now you'll be able to search with it directly from the address bar.
