Suddenly I can no longer send emails. Various messages (wh do not copy), most with hieroglyphics and mentioning the need for authentication. I have very low IT skills & have tried the easier solutions found on the internet. A particular question: some web answers suggest that sender addresses with @wanadoo.fr (the old name for Orange) may no longer be compatible with smtp.orange.fr outgoing mail. If so, what to do? Thanks for any ideas.

If the latter is correct, you could first try searching for "server settings for wanadoo.fr" and see if the settings are the ones you are currently running.

Your SMTP Server settings are found at Hamburger (top right)/Account Settings/Outgoing Server (SMTP) (left)

Thank you Frisée for your answer. I didn't find those server settings but this led to online discussions which mentioned that the SMTP settings had to have an email address with orange.fr & specifically not wanadoo.fr. This obstacle appeared overnight with NO warning at all. I have looked at changing to another email server but the simplest seems to be to change my email address to orange.fr. I will be doing that tomorrow.
