why, when i click 'download' to get software from a site, am i not asked where to download to?

I'm trying to download .wav to .mp3 converter. I tried a couple sites and both times, when i click on download, it doesn't ask where to put the download but just starts downloading...and i don't know where to.

This happened

Tools > Options >> General - Downloads = Save files to That is where your downloads should be.

To be asked for the save location for each and every download: Tools > Options > General, Downloads section, check "Always ask me where to save files"

Other Issues: to correct security/stability issues

Update Java: your ver. 1.6.0.16; current ver. 1.6.0.20 (important security update 04-15-2010) (Firefox 3.6 and above requires Java 1.6.0.10 and above; see: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Java-related+issues#Java_does_not_work_in_Firefox_3_6) (Windows users: Do the manual update; very easy.)
